His short story "The Phantom of Kansas" in a collection when I was a teenager was a revelation, and *Steel Beach* is still my favorite Scifi novel of all time (and its rogue AI is as relevant as ever). Farewell to a legend.

My current problem is losing a little respect for everyone that tells me they're sorry, they got that content from Chat GPT and it "made up a bunch of crap" and they "forgot to check it" before sending it to me for publication online. At that point, it's the human's fault, not the machine's.

Steel Beach by John Varley is a bit like that. The AI "means well" and kind of does what it wants :)
