So happy to have this brilliant Arcane fanart poster by @sydneyjones.bsky.social up by my work desk! It's so funny, clever and beautifully made, and while it focuses on the scientists Jayce and Viktor, I love that it features charming drawings of Jinx, Ekko, Vi and Caitlyn as well. #jayvik #arcane

The wire puzzles in Broken Age come to mind. Needed to break out the pen and paper for those!

15. Day of the Tentacle Remastered
2D point and click. Play as three characters that get stranded each in a different time period to save history from alien invasion. A colourful and zany cartoon adventure that has perhaps the cleverest, funniest and most well thought-out puzzles of them all.

14. Technobabylon
2D pixelart point and click, another of Wadjet Eye's many great ones. A fun cyberpunk story with a well-realised setting, interesting characters, an engaging story, and a good breadth of clever puzzles that feel part of the story-telling rather than a roadblock to it.

13. The Cave
3D side-scrolling platformer. Humorous and imaginative as you'd expect from Double Fine and Ron Gilbert, with an Edward Gorey-like dark twist. Choose 3 characters from a cast of 7 and use their unique abilities to make your way through their backstories to their nefarious ends.

12. Kathy Rain
2D pixel art point and click. A multi-faceted protagonist, a psychologically complex ,mature story with dark and unsettling turns. Well-achieved puzzles based around doing detective work and connecting clues. Full disclosure: I helped translate the game into Spanish.

11. Grim Fandango Remastered
3D point and click. One of the most stylish and best-written games ever made: based on mythology surrounding Dia de los Muertos, the characters, dialogue and music drip with noir atmosphere, but it's also full of wickedly smart humour that extends to its puzzles.

10. Call of the Sea
In this 3D first person game, you play a woman exploring a beautiful desert island on the trail of her missing husband, and end up on an astonishing, magical journey with Lovecraftian themes. With puzzles that feel very tactile and satisfying to solve and lovely voice-acting.

8. Fran Bow
A 2D point and click adventure where the lines between nightmare, fantasy and reality blur, yet the experience is authentic, memorable and gives a lot to ponder. Imaginative storybook art, sometimes spooky and gory. Despite the dreamworld logic the puzzles aren't difficult to figure out.

7. Monkey Island
The point and click adventure series that has brought the most joy to the world 😃 Imaginative and hilarious, with a magical atmosphere thanks to its characters, art and music. Well-paced and ingenious puzzles. The protagonist's evolution makes him one of the best in video games.

6. Full Throttle Remastered
2D point and click adventure, optional classic pixel art. Tim Schafer's other games look quirkier, but this one's just as charming. The puzzles are clever and fun, the writing is great, and there isn't a moment that doesn't feel completely badass. Maureen is wonderful.

5. Stick it to the Man!
2D platformer. Takes place in a zany sticker / paper world. You can read people's minds and move stickers about to solve the puzzles. Hilarious dialogue written by Ryan North. Followed up by the game Flipping Death.

Top-down action game. Gorgeous low-poly art. Discover secrets, unlock new abilities and areas. Great environmental story-telling. The main collectible are pages of your guidebook, which you can begin to work out as you progress and discover lore and use what you learn to solve its riddles.

The Blackwell series
2D pixel art point and click adventure. A well-written and moving supernatural series full of empathy, humour and spookiness, each game better than the last. You do detective work with its dual protagonists journalist Rosa Blackwell and mysterious sidekick Joey Mallone.

The Forgotten City
First-person, takes place in an ancient Roman city where you're trapped in a time loop to try to avert its doom. Steeped in mythology, cleverly written and designed, with QOL features to avoid repetition as you talk to people and experiment in each loop to learn new information.

And here's CHOICESCAPE being played on an arcade machine at Unreal Fest Seattle! When we were told we'd be making arcade games, I was worried because I know little of the genre, but this makes me so happy:

AMA: I completed the Unreal Games Fellowship! We were 50 gamedevs learning to use the engine through online classes. The classes and teachers were amazing, as were the other fellows, who all made incredible games. This is mine, a roguelike called CHOICESCAPE, my first game in Unreal Engine:

Wrote a Control / Alan Wake for this zine fbczine.carrd.co which will come out in a week, although my short story is a little oddity which requires no knowledge of the fandom to enjoy. Here's a game for you: try to guess from this preview what [REDACTED] is 😉
