Story time about WHY I hate Summers, plus bonus alt text on this stinking piece of excrem-er, I mean email.

Not so long after Summers publicly questioned the abilities of women in STEM, a colleague said:

#ShowMeYourKnits horror story week… this was my first attempt at brioche knitting 🧶. It took me at least 5 years? And I frogged it back to zero on AT LEAST 4 separate occasions. I nearly had to frog it at the last repeat AGAIN, but a friend graciously unknit one row so I could fix it & FINISH.
Half of a crescent-shaped 2 color brioche knit shawl in blue & silver (Rebel One pattern) laid out on a white sheet. It has little branching patterns, some of which look like the rebel insignia from the most recent Star Wars trilogy.

The freshly stabilized Liberty Library I built for @indivisiblequeens.bsky.social tabling events will now reside (when we’re not tabling) at Loveday 31, thanks to the generosity of store owner Ivana. Which means you can actually grab a zine or ‘know your rights’ card anytime Loveday is open!

What I have been working on in my knitting 🧶 queue, now finished!

Yarn from my trip to Anchorage for the June AAS meeting, made by Inuit spinners using traditional techniques—so pleased to be able to work with it!
A knit gaiter/cowl; top half is cream qiviut/silk/arctic fox with a dark blue qiviut ribbed border; bottom half is dark blue qiviut/merino wool. Pattern is from Norah Gaughan’s Knitting Nature, using the cable chart pattern for a turbulence (looking very like a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability forming at a jet edge) pattern done in cables; the bobbles of denser fluid at the tips of the curls in the pattern are mostly in the opposite color from the background (til I ran out of cream yarn). Not yet blocked, resting on a cream pillow on a couch with a multi-colored woven throw in the background.

Current state:
A rectangular plywood box about 5.5 inches deep, with a thin plywood backing currently being clamped with curing glue, and a slanted ‘roof’ with a ~15degree incline that slightly hangs over in all directions. It rests on a concrete floor. This will be the ‘body’ of the lit display. A plexiglass window, with a thin plywood frame; frame is partially in clamps to allow glue to cure. It rests on a crosscut sled on top of a table saw. This will be the front door.

Stibnite (spiky dark metallic spikes) embedded in clear calcite. The largest stibnite crystal ever found, over 1000lbs, displayed in the American Museum of Natural History. Large dark metallic spikes pointing in chaotic directions.
