1. Three aspects of perceived complexity stood out: effectiveness uncertainty (whether actions will be effective and in which contexts), side effects (improving one's behavior in one way but making it worse in other ways), and goal conflict (sustainability vs. other goals, e.g. monetary costs).(3/5)

Across three studies, surveying a total of 1 176 UK participants, we developed a 12-item measure of the perceived complexity of sustainability.
