The only things with Subarus are the higher maintenance costs because of the horizontally-opposed engines and full-time AWD, the overall higher cost due to their reputation for sturdiness and reliability, and yeah the CVT, but very few still used geared transmissions in this day and age.

With the way interest rates are on new verses used these days, you’re probably better off trading for a new model, especially with all the incentives and deals coming up with the holidays. Something to think about in your search.

I mean with how cars are made anymore, he might be the most reliable if we’re being honest 😂

Ford: anything, as long as it has a 2.0L or bigger engine. The smaller engines are known to be problematic.
Mazda: anything.
Subaru: anything made mid-2010s or newer. Keep in mind higher maintenance cost because of the special engines and full-time AWD though.
Those are my recommendations.

My short list:
Honda: anything. Just avoid the 1.5L engine.
Toyota: anything. Some 4 cylinders will burn oil down the line though. The latest generation of V6s in some of the bigger vehicles have issues too, so look for something used if you’re going bigger.
