A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

Letter to Toronto City Council RE Motion CC34.3 (155 Saint Dennis Drive - Appeal of Ontario Land Tribunal Decision) -- Good afternoon, members of City Council. I am writing to express my opposition to the City of Toronto's plan to appeal the Ontario Land Tribunal decision regarding 155 Saint Dennis Drive. Not only would such an appeal waste taxpayer dollars, but the current development proposal would help future proof development of the East Don Trail (Phase 3) along with providing high density housing near the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Ontario Line transit routes. This Phase 3 trail would connect the existing Phase 2 trail from Wigmore Park to the Wynford Drive access trail with the Phase 1 trail from Taylor Creek to Bermondsey Road which is nearing completion. Upon completion of the Phase 3 trail, people would be able to use the Don Valley trail system to get from the Waterfront to Lawrence Avenue, though a further northern extension would be needed to connect with the Betty Sutherland Trail. Please do not appeal the 155 Saint Dennis Drive decision and instead, let's focus on building out Toronto's citywide trail network. Sincerely yours, Robert Zaichkowski, CPA, CMA

My comment RE Ontario Bill 60 -- As a long-time road safety advocate, I am strongly opposed to the Ford government's proposal to ban the removal of motor vehicle lanes for bike lanes or any other prescribed purpose! This - along with Bill 56 which bans speed cameras - effectively kills any possibility for the City of Toronto to redesign Parkside Drive despite repeated calls from local residents to make that street safer for all road users. I used to live near this street and can personally attest to the need for safety improvements on that street, while there are others across the city that also need to be made safer for all road users. The idea of prioritizing motor vehicles over all other modes of transportation is UNACCEPTABLE in the 21st century and goes against what other cities across Canada and around the world are doing. The only way Ontario can fight gridlock and climate change is with FEWER CARS and that can only be accomplished by reallocating road space away from cars for walking, cycling, and transit. It is essential that Queen's Park withdraw Bill 60 in full (and repeal Bill 212) IMMEDIATELY! Not just for the bike lane provision, but also for the housing items which are hostile to tenants.

Dear Members of the Planning and Housing Committee: CC: Mayor Olivia Chow, Councillor Dianne Saxe RE: PH25.3 (Community Within Reach: Expanding Housing Options in Neighbourhoods (EHON) Neighbourhood Retail and Services Study - Phase Three Final Report) I would like to express my full support for this motion to legalize neighbourhood retail establishments across Toronto; something expressed by groups such as More Neighbours Toronto. This matter has already been subject to extensive public consultation and the ban on such establishments since the mid-20th century does not make sense today. This ban has led to the number of these establishments to have decreased by a third from 2100 in 1989 to 1400 in 2019 which has decreased the vitality of these neighbourhoods. There are a number of vocal opponents who claim approving this motion would lead to the establishment of cannabis shops and bars. However, these fears are mostly unfounded and cannot serve as an excuse to continue with this outdated ban. Please do the right thing for this city and support this motion, as well as continue to act bold in addressing the housing crisis and revitalizing Toronto's neighbourhoods. On my way home from the #BudgetTO town hall, I checked out the new Esplanade #BikeTO lanes from Market to Scott. While it's great people are using them already, the pavement quality is poor and there is a potential conflict area just east of Scott which needs some sorting out to do. #TOpoli

It was a full house at tonight's Toronto budget town hall at St Lawrence Market North Building! While affordable housing & transit were obviously among the top priorities, a couple of newer ones emerged including "doing unsexy work" of repairing buildings and climate action. #TOpoli #BudgetTO

Text from Matt Elliott's City Hall Watcher on October 6, 2025 MM33.5 - In light of the provincial government’s distaste for new bike lanes, Councillor Shelley Carroll is moving to put a pin in the construction of cycling infrastructure on Sheppard East between Bayview Avenue and Leslie Street. “Proceeding with the tender and construction of this project prior to receiving provincial approval may risk the project being halted or the infrastructure being removed at the direction of the Minister, resulting in wasted public funds and further project delays,” says Carroll. Cycling advocate Robert Zaichkowski thinks Council should stand firm and push forward with the procurement process.

At last, I made it to Niagara Falls and now on the GO train home. The final distance broke the 150 km mark when my previous high was 115 km. Had to walk my bike up a couple of brutal hills up the Niagara Escarpment though. #BikeTO #BikeSky strava.app.link/DMLBhEY5dXb

Had a soggy bike ride up to C&C on Don Mills Road this morning. On the way, I noticed some new cycle tracks under construction on Millwood (at Overlea) and on Overlea (Millwood to Leaside Park). Are these part of the Ontario Line construction or something else? #BikeTO #TOpoli #VisionZero
