I turn 65 and start getting video “health” propaganda from Dr. Oz at Medi(we don’t) care. Fuck me. This is worse than the premiums. Almost worse than getting sick.

Alison Krauss and Union Station with Jerry Douglas, the greatest Dobre player in the world, at the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville. Her ethereal voice and the thunderous bluegrass jamming by the whole band let me float away from all this for just a little while.

Bob Dylan, Outlaw Music Festival, Camden, NJ.

Not usually known for worrying about pleasing his audience— and he has 5000 songs—Dylan sang “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Don’t Think Twice, That’s All Right.” Both classics from his early years. (Those who saw the movie would have been pleased.)

Correct me if I'm wrong. The Murdoch settlement means when Rupert dies Lachlan will spend his days wrecking American democracy surrounded by kangaroos and koalas.

Fair dinkum! Tie me wallaby down sport.

The Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild took a table at the Farmers Market for the first time. Great to join Sherri Wright, Gail Comorat and Kathleen Martens selling our books. I blew my royalties—and then some—on fresh baked bread, bread-pudding muffins, dog treats and lunch at Zogg’s by the boardwalk.

PC wise, once we were supposed hate on Barnes and Noble because it was killing indie bookstores. Now ANY bookshop is a good idea in Amazon-land. The new BN—that’s right a new one—here has these three Favorite shelves at the front of the store: LGBTQ Stories, Banned and Black Authors. LOVE you BN!

We were in JFK Stadium for the Phillie end of Live Aid 40 years ago. I was a reporter for an trade newsletter, Television Digest. There being no biz news to cover, Sheri and I enjoyed the massive show. So many acts—so so many acts, that the program reminds me of ones I'd forgotten were on the bill.
