I've been getting a lot of follows lately. That is flattering, and I've been trying to follow people back. That said, I am trying to be selective in who I follow. Please don't take offense - if I don't know you, you have no or few posts, and people I know don't follow you, I probably won't either.

The latest Cloudflare and Amazon outages have got me thinking about utilities. We can't build modern software without dependencies. The days of running entirely on the client are over, which I see as a good thing. The cost is that we rely on infrastructure.

Elon Musk’s new pay package could amount to $100B per year.

That's the same as 3.2 million cashiers’ paychecks combined.

It’s more than 1.4 million elementary school teachers’ paychecks.

It’s more than 2 million janitors’ paychecks.

Billionaire greed is out of control.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

I had to fly 3 times during the shutdown. Despite the nasty things that Trump said about them, the #TSA employees were all amazingly efficient, professional, and friendly! I had to work through several shutdowns back in my day. It really sucked. Hats off to you guys!

I can't recall the last time I agreed with the Trump administration on anything. But I do think that opening dialogue with the new government in Syria is the right thing to do at this time.

Every once in a while, your kids do things that really affect you. This summer, my son went to a Dropkick Murphys concert. I was out of town, so sadly couldn't go with him. (DefCon). And he heard this song for the first time, off of their latest album. When he came home, he sat down with my wife...
