I think, personally, if you have a voice to be heard and it's something you are passionate about, do it. Sadly, it'll always remain relevant in some way, look at RATM, as important and prominent now as they were 20 years ago, if not more so. I don't think it's cliche, I think it's empowering.

If it's something people can relate to (and it really is in the current climate) then it's only a good thing for the artist and the listener. Relatable/interpretable art is the one.
