Voters in general don't have a problem with their candidate being black, (and I'd argue it's an electoral benefit) but combining that with Harris being a woman was not palatable to those in the center who care more about optics/perception than anything of substance about the candidates

Harris definitely did better than Biden would have, but there are definitely voters out there that had perceived Harris as some sort of left-wing radical because of her ethnicity and gender. I subscribe to the idea that we need to try running a black male candidate presidentially

You don't understand, the NSDAP won because the SPD didn't find enough common ground with them

Using divisive social issues is a staple of Republican politics, whether it be Abortion, race, sexual orientation, or any other social issue in the last 100 years. They did it with race in the 80's and 2020 and they did it with gay rights in 2004 and trans rights last year and this administration

They definitely believe in what they're pushing, but this is like any other issue for Republicans. They fail to do anything meaningful for their voters with their power, and their way of keeping the base in line is by focusing on social issues. Anti-trans policy is the latest in a long line

It's a loser if you run on nothing but anti-trans hate, but we literally just watched Trump and Republicans win across the board while being crazy transphobic, it's clear what the average voter cares about isn't trans issues
January 29, 2025 at 1:15 AM
This is especially because if you're a Democrat it should be clear we lost 2024 almost entirely because our unpopular guy took too long to get out of the way and our candidate wouldn't distance herself from him

I'm not really sure how opponents of Trump could possibly take away "WE should have a cult of personality" from watching what he's done since 2015

Like if you support democratic principles you should be inherently opposed to building a cult of personality that ignores reason/objectivity

I use distract in a way to mean that they know the only thing most voters care about is the economy so they have to sew chaos elsewhere to distract from their economic policy. Of course what this administration has done/planned to do with LGBTQ+ rights is horrifc
January 28, 2025 at 5:36 PM
I'm pretty sure she just means they attack the trans community because they know it's a way to polarize people against each other and distract swing voters from his destructive economic policies. They did the same thing with race/policing policy during 2020 and to a lesser extent last year
January 28, 2025 at 5:34 PM
I don't know if I can do another 4 years of SNL Trump and resist lib t shirt slogans but it definitely seems like that's what we're in for

I can't count how often I've seen people on TikTok having arguments where they're both completely incorrect about what they're talking about.

Along the lines of:

"The electoral college is good because we're a republic not a democracy"

"No the electoral college is bad because of gerrymandering"

Trump is exhausting enough but just like last time the exhaustion is being further compounded by the usually grossly misinformed online left. I hate the modern phenomenon of everybody thinking they're an expert on politics since Trump took office
