I want to be able to buy a book on @bookshop.org to support a local bookstore, but consume it on an e-reader. But the publishing industry and current DRM doesn't play nicely for this.

Also AWS hosts a HUGE portion of the internet, including Amazon’s competitors like walmart, target, netflix, shopify, etc. Amazon’s retail arm competes with these companies.

Because even if AWS and Amazon’s retail don’t overlap in what they sell, they share data, capital, and strategic advantages that competitors in either market can’t match. It allows them run the retail side at razor-thin margins or even losses because AWS is so profitable.

This is yet another example of private equity and corporate consolidation that has driven out competition and has a choke hold on prices.
