Highlighting one thought that, while not novel, rings very true:

Aim to be 90% done in 50% of the available time
(corollary to "The first 90% of the job takes 90% of the time. The last 10% of the job takes the other 90% of the time.")

Reminded to me by reading qntm.org/devphilo
Developer philosophy
Amazing as it may seem after all these years, there are still junior developers in the world. A few weeks ago at work we had a talk where senior developers (including me) were invited to spend around ...

Oz’s wonderfully shot film “The Battle for Kyiv” is moving & informative. We discovered things we didn’t know about the start of the war in #Ukraine, particularly in #Kyiv and surrounding areas. Impressive editing and production too. Well worth watching.

Xbox app: "Pre-install Starfield to play as soon as it will be available!"
Me: "So, there won't be a day 0 patch that would make me download it all over again? Ok"
== install ==
== game is released ==
Xbox app: "Update, downloading 117 Gb"

Why does pre-install even exists?..

Unexpectedly, since Threads release I find myself using it more than Bluesky, seems like most of people I previously followed on Twitter migrated there.

Just finished "Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves".
I did expect it to be ok, but it was really, really good!
Light action-comedy, captivating world, and it's not afraid to reference source material, but still tells its own story, with good characters and nice humour.
Hopefully more to come?

4 days in Wales, 3 days of hikes, ~100 km, beaches, waterfalls and mountains.
Wow that was awesome! Felt like a month really.

is there a way to hide alt text in bluesky images when they are opened in full screen? it covers all the bottom part of the image, making it unreadable, and seems like it can’t be hidden

Written in 2018, but still very actual today, great set of advice and best practices:

Functional Data Engineering — a modern paradigm for batch data processing
Functional Data Engineering — a modern paradigm for batch data processing
Batch data processing — historically known as ETL — is extremely challenging. It’s time-consuming, brittle, and often unrewarding. Not only…

I was sceptical starting to listen "Building a new Ukraine" episode of my favourite Neoliberal podcast, but in the end I don't think Tamar said anything I disagree with: on state of civil society, on it's aspirations, on "what people want".
So, as usual - highly recommend to listen / subscribe.

It's interesting how bothsidesism works (and especially whow it stops working for certain news) in different media outlets
#UkrainianView

And fuck you western media. Immediate "Ukraine attack" about the bridge. But when russia blew the dam and killed hundreds - "we dunno who did/both sides blame each other". You are fucking corrupted disgrace and pos. Burn in hell.

For 📚👀 folks, 5 books I like (not "top 5" or "defining 5", it's impossible to select them):

Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand
The Sandman, by Neil Gaiman
The Witcher Saga, by Andrzej Sapkowski
Perdido Street Station, by China Mieville
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

> Musk announces new AI company that seeks to “understand the universe”
> xAI’s core team will be led by Musk himself

I don't think it sounds as positive as he hopes it is.
On the flipside - he might finally leave Twitter alone and let it recover a bit (only to break it again in a few months).

FTC v. Microsoft is over, and the judge has decided to deny the FTC’s preliminary injunction request.

Finally! Hope the UK regulators would allow deal to be closed as well.
