NWS is already understaffed, and this mass firing is only going to increase the chance that warnings are not issued in a timely manner and that key equipment like radars and IT systems will fail at the worst time.

I have written a short statement responding to mass firings today of #NOAA / National Weather Service (#NWS) staff (which were concentrated among recent hires as well as highly experienced staff who had recently been promoted). Please see below screenshot & below for full text.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Please be safe traveling inland late this afternoon and tonight. Power outages are possible (especially in the 6-10" area) because of the weight of the wet snow.

Needed rain is moving into Maine
It's a slow-moving system that will bring periods of rain through Saturday. The mountains will see a flip to wet snow.

Thank you! Honestly, I’m having a hard time figuring out where to spend my time… I can’t possibly post to X, threads, this, FB, and expect the same level of quality/attention. But I’m open to new platforms and we’ll see where it all goes.
@ryanbretonwx.bsky.social I hope you'll get active here. I really appreciated your coverage during the unexpected floods this summer.
