New @politico.com poll shows American's concerns with the economy and affordability. It's not just gas and groceries, working families are struggling to make ends meet across the board. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

The students I spoke with today were so glad to be there. They love their mixture of traditional academics and hands on learning, which includes internship opportunities and other career pathways.

Whether it's marine biology, welding, robotics or more, these students have an opportunity to learn about the world around them. I wish that every kid had access to programs like this.

I've spent my entire career championing Career and Technical Education programs. Today I visited the Harbor School in NYC and it's exactly the type of school we should be seeding, sustaining and scaling.

Walmart said their “cheaper” Thanksgiving basket proves prices are down. What they didn’t say is that it has fewer items & cheaper substitutes.

Thanksgiving dinner is up 10% this year and some staples are up nearly 60%!

New report from @groundwork.bsky.social, @tcfdotorg.bsky.social, & @aft.org.

🦃 NEW: Thanksgiving dinner is up 10% this year — more than 3x overall inflation.

Families are cutting back or skipping the holiday entirely. The reason? Economic policies are driving prices up for the whole meal.

Full analysis from @groundwork.bsky.social, @tcfdotorg.bsky.social, & @aft.org.

From the literacy work AFT St. Louis members are doing to spread joy through reading, to @psc-cuny.org members standing with immigrants, to students discovering their passion through healthcare internships with @aftmass.bsky.social, to @uhpafaculty making a difference far beyond the classroom.

Every week, I’m reminded of how deeply educators invest in their students and communities. Their work takes so many forms — and all of it matters. These are just a few stories from the week that make me #PublicSchoolProud.

The attacks on public education were already causing problems with bipartisan-backed career and technical education programs. Does anyone think students will be helped if the federal government further abandons and abdicates its responsibility to kids? subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

As I travel around the country speaking to members, student debt is an issue that constantly comes up–regardless of if you’re in education, healthcare or public services. @aft.org has resources to help tackle your student debt.

Voters from both parties don’t want to see their health insurance premiums go up in January. With the shutdown over, Congress needs to come together to find the solution. Americans deserve affordable healthcare.

Thanksgiving this year is costing families 10% more than last year. That's more than 3x the rate of inflation.

🧅 Onions: +56%
🥧 Pie Crust: +13%
🫐 Ocean Spray cranberry sauce: +22%
🧈 Butter: +17%

Even in this time of great division there's bipartisan agreement that students deserve relevant, engaging ways to learn. TY @kim.senate.gov @markey.senate.gov @repbonamici.bsky.social @scclemons.bsky.social for a great discussion on making education a federal priority—it's an investment in our future

Thank you Emily with @americanprogress.bsky.social & Leslie with @protectourcare.org for a great webinar to help our members navigate rising healthcare costs. The Trump administration has waged a war on healthcare, but we're fighting back to make care more affordable for every family.

Thank you @engagelongisland.bsky.social for such an incredible night. We had such a productive conversation about the attacks on public ed, how to help students and my book Why Fascists Fear Teachers.

Americans see the failure of leadership & we deserve better. Just today, the president invoked violence against political opponents, a court ruled that his National Guard deployment in DC is "contrary to law,” and a Fox News poll reflects broken economic promises felt across party lines.

Not only is teacher pay far lower than it should be, educators spend their own 💰on their classrooms while billionaires and corporations get tax cuts. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/i...

Plans to move IDEA oversight out of the Department of Education mean walking away from the responsibility to help all students seize their potential. Spreading services across agencies will create more confusion, more mistakes and more barriers. We must protect IDEA. #IDEA50

AFT's mission is & has always been ensuring every child has a safe & welcoming environment with curriculums that are engaging & relevant. Read my letter to the editor in the Wash Post about how our union & members focus on delivering what students need.

The #ProtectAmericasWorkforceAct is a commonsense, bipartisan bill to restore federal workers’ freedom to join & form unions - and to rein in Trump's illegal power grab so working people have a union on the job to protect them—and us. Tell the Senate to pass it ASAP.

What’s happening now with Trump’s plan to disperse the Dept of Education isn’t about slashing red tape. Teachers know how to make the federal role more effective, efficient and supportive of real learning—if only the administration would listen. www.aft.org/press-releas...
November 19, 2025 at 12:28 AM
The President’s plan to dismantle the Dept of Ed is neither streamlining nor reform, it’s an abdication & abandonment of America’s future. Rather than show leadership in helping all students seize their potential, it walks away from that responsibility. www.aft.org/press-releas...
