Ha ha yeah. Also thank you for the blog link!

After I saw your comments, I looked it up & there's really barely anything about it online. I did find this

www.midwaybook.com/pages/books/...

Turns out it's part of a series & there are 3 other ones for some of Hans Christian Andersen's other works!

Dw I didn't doubt you (I had never even heard of the book until I read your initial comments!) but wow, that's so cool to have - thanks for sharing!

Oh wow, I had no idea the original manuscript was stolen; insane. And yeah, it is crazy this hasn't gotten any attention despite the story being so popular 😔

I hope you end up finding someone knowledgeable to help with this this. I suppose there might be someone out there on r/translator but idk.

Great! I'm definitely quite interested ha ha. It sounds like a super cool book :D

Is your Blue Sky good to follow for if/when you post any updates? (no rush or anything ofc - I wouldn't be surprised if a project like this takes years).

The translation has the potential to get popular on Tumblr. It is a bit hit or miss though - it could get tons of attention, or it could get nothing.

And definitely upload the translation to the Internet Archive. Anyone researching The Little Mermaid or looking for this book will look there.

I would also suggest making a Reddit account early. Reddit tends to flag *new* accounts posting the same thing on multiple subs, esp if they haven't commented before.

So, making an account and just commenting on diff posts over time will prevent those issues when you do post the translations.

I think Reddit would be good! These are some subs where I think it would gain some attention:

r/books, r/OldBooks, r/rarebooks, r/fairytales, r/mermaids, r/mermaid, r/HansChristianAndersen, and maybe r/Denmark and r/danishlanguage

(check the rules tho, esp as some subs have formatting rules)

How did I get recommended this on both Twitter and Blue Sky 😭

TL;DR you may get fined and your item may be removed, and the marketplace you were selling on (e.g. Etsy) may even ban you.

This is what Etsy says in their article on the matter:
