This marked the end of anyone trusting the contents of that fridge.

One year at my wife's grandmother's house, it was time for pie. I offered to do the slicing and plating. Got the tub of cool whip from the fridge, opened it and asked the assorted family when did they start making blueberry cool whip?

Fully serious question - what the fuck happened to the Atlantic? I first found out about it via James Fallows, who spoke lovingly of it's history and past contributors. Is this really just Goldberg being awful? Fallows for the record never mentions the magazine anymore.

Quick question, I'll hang up and listen, but what the fuck is wrong with you people? Is this the shit such luminaries such as Emerson and Longfellow and Stowe would nod sagely at?

For a smaller gatherr, I just get a breast. Otherwise with dark meat separate, you just roast until the thigh is 180 degrees or so. Any option that allows better control between white and dark meat is going to rule.

Can't believe I'm this far down the replies to find this. Hell yes.

Did it last year for a small group it ruled. Deboning a 10 lber this year, which is a bit of knife work up front for easy sailing on game day. Adam Ragusea's video is my go to text.

May I introduce you to turkey porchetta, recommend by bsky royalty Jamelle Bouie himself.
November 24, 2025 at 2:29 AM
Did as Bouie commanded and did turkey porchetta last year. Doing Adam Ragusea's deboned turkey this year. Many paths to a tasty bird.

Tuesday the bird gets deboned ala the Ragusea Method. It's super bowl week for the home cooks!

A communal maker space is great, but assuming blades are sharp and fences and jigs are square is a coin toss.

Eh. The table base came together, it's sturdy, but some of the shoulders aren't fully set/square/pretty. It's my first non-instructor assisted end table, and it's going to a friend who is just happy to have it. It's fine - the top is gorgeous, which will make up for most of it.

Look Haydon, I'm doing my first deal table glue up today. I don't need this right now.

Good on you for giving him a good end as well as a good life. It's our job to do right by them, no matter how much it hurts.

Bonus of hitting 50 is I'm eligible for MOAR SHOTS. Got the pneumonia one this year and man, that shot knocked me on my ass.

We are truly blessed by how stupid and short sighted they are. It's why I get irked with the "They'll cancel elections" people. Like, these fuckers can barely order lunch, GTFO.
November 20, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Pretty impressive that in 12 months I've gone from real terror about this to seeing stuff like this and thinking oh, yeah, they're cooked and we're going to run over them like fallen leaves. Yes, they're doing a ton of damage, but also, this is laughable shit.
November 20, 2025 at 3:42 PM
What angers me is that absolutely no one said anything in the moment. Yes, decorum, the Office, etc but somebody in that group should have had some version of a professional "Oh fuck off" fall out of their head.
November 19, 2025 at 1:59 PM
Normies get sneered at here, but a whole swath of them are rising to the moment.
November 17, 2025 at 6:02 PM
It's also incredible to see how many normies have been willing to put themselves into a position to have violence commited against them. Lots of people of all race, color and creed just getting in close proximity letting them know their thoughts loudly in great, colorful detail.

Nate at Yellowbird did my last piece, and the girls at Richmond Tattoo Club seem to be operating at a high level depending on the style you want.
November 15, 2025 at 2:32 AM
I mean, Richmond is right here in the Commonwealth, come on down!
November 14, 2025 at 11:07 PM
This is deep lore, JP. I'm a little concerned how much your readers aren't going to get this.

I can be too blithe about voters not being shielded from their decisions. I, white, married, 50, male in a very LGTBQ accepting city, am unlikely to bear the worst of that, and I think it's easy to forget that.

Fuck Mark Warner, though.

Between your posts today, and the discussion on the shutdown in this episode, I'm appreciating your "You guys are really underestimating harm reduction in this environment" POV. It has, uh, tempered some of my Big Feels of late.
