China is winning the trade war. The Trump team helped them.

Per the @wsj.com, the reason China massively escalated in the last 36 hours is because it believes Trump will fold - just as he did on magnets - without reaching for any US leverage in response.

“Judge Goodstein was walking on the beach when the fire started. Her husband was in the house with children and perhaps grandchildren. The family had to escape by jumping from a window or balcony. I’m told there were injuries from the fall, such as broken legs.”

The TikTok deal is looking like a complete surrender by the Trump team. And it may even be illegal.

If true, the US will let Beijing determine what appears on the news feeds of 180 million US TikTok users.

Not quite America first. Even advisors to the deal are renouncing it!

🚨 Art of the deal in two WSJ stories showing Trump caving on China policy.

➡️ We unilaterally indicate we’ll remove export controls on the H20 so Beijing can dominate AI, and we seemingly ask for nothing in return.

➡️ On the very same day, Beijing slaps export controls on battery technology.

Important story from Nikkei’s Ken Moriyasu that explains, in part, how Trump police pushed Tokyo to skip NATO, pull down a 2+2, and remain silent on Iran.

There is no path to allied scale without Japan. But the relationship is at a low-point now.

Sharp reversal from the last four years.

The PRC was obsessed with it for good reason (see below).

When I was at the NSC, ONA produced some of the best analysis anywhere in the USG and had enormous and even historic policy impact. No other institution presently can do what it did.

Ending it is another unforced error.

The destruction of DOD’s Office Net Assessment will be celebrated in Beijing & Moscow.

This little-known but enormously consequential 50 year-old institution actually thought long-term.

It helped us win the Cold War, grasped the China challenge early, and figured out revolutions in warfare.

“Trust me, bro” is not an argument.

Business insiders have used government to make money for literally millennia. Crony capitalism dates back to Ancient Rome.

Spare us the moral outrage for being held accountable.

Asahi Shimbun, leading Japanese newspaper, has a sharp take on the “Gulf of America” drama and the decision to ban AP:

Disturbing ties between Kash Patel and SHEIN — a PRC company implicated in forced labor in Xinjiang. He has millions in shares and won’t divest.

Especially concerning amid reports that DOJ/FBI is going to reduce focus on PRC influence efforts in the US.

The new acting Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy — State’s top public diplomacy official:

1) not only denies the Uyghur genocide but appears to applaud it

2) says the US should sell out Taiwan to China for concessions in Antarctica (???)

Is that really the CEO of TikTok sitting next to the next Director of National Intelligence — Tulsi Gabbard — at President Trump’s inauguration?

Evidently, yes.
January 20, 2025 at 7:19 PM
TikTok had 268 days to sell itself so it wasn’t operated by China. That would have solved everything.

But they didn’t even try. China wouldn’t let them.

Now, with time short, they want Biden to ignore a bipartisan law SCOTUS upheld 9-0.

If they shut down, it’s on them.

Friends, please help me report this false account that is impersonating me.

It’s @rushdoshl.bsky.social

1) The brilliant handle innovation was to substitute the “i” in Doshi for “I”

2) It’s also reposted all my old posts, which is sort of dispositive evidence of intentional deception.

There are apparently loyalty tests for those who seeking to serve in foreign policy, defense, and intel jobs in Trump 2.0.

They’re administered by Charlie Kirk, Sergio Gor, and John McEntee:

- What did you think of January 6?
- Was the 2020 election stolen?
