Kinesiotape or low dye tape for Plantar Heel Pain?

Both strategies may be effective for short term pain reduction in PHP. Consider patient preference, goal activities and previous response to taping.

Energy needs must be restored *before* starting any strength work in athletes with RED-S. If done so it has multiple potential benefits.

Posterior knee pain differential diagnosis. 

I’ve focused on the more common injuries but it’s worth noting that bone stress injuries (such as tibial stress fractures) and bone tumours can also cause posterior knee pain, although they are more rare.

Ranking exercise parameters for Achilles Tedninopathy (AT) 🥇🥈🥉

For rehab of mid-portion AT contraction intensity appears to be key. With insertional AT dorsiflexion range may play a more prominent role. We still want to load progressively but we often start out of painful, dorsiflexed positions.

Does inflammation play a role in tendinopathy? 🤔

We had moved away from it but recent research is suggesting both local and systemic inflammation may be part of the pathology.

Choose your words with care!

Patients tend to interpret phrases like ‘degenerative’ and ‘wear and tear’ very negatively. 

Check their understanding too - one study found that some patients thought a knee ‘effusion’ meant the joint was fused together! 🤯

I teamed up with @Liz_Bayley_Physio to create this progressive rehab programme for Plantar Heel Pain. 

We've called it 'LiTHE' (Liz and Tom's Heel Exercises) and it's aimed at active and sporty patients. It's not a recipe though so it's best to adapt it to suit individual needs.

The quads, calf and glutes are important shock absorbers and the hamstrings work hardest during the swing phase.

Cross-training is a great way for injured athletes to maintain fitness. Look for options that are comfortable in terms of symptoms and easily accessible for the patient.
