Just an FYI, if you want my video game posts only and aren’t interested in storm chasing, writing, peregrine falcons or my personal posts, head on over to @thatdamnrogue for my video game posts/screenshots!
This was after rescuing Winona, one of McKeever and Judson’s peregrine falcon chicks from this year. The others are Lawfield, Charlton and Simcoe. They nest atop the Sheraton Hotel. Winona was our last and late fledge - happening just as my falcon watch shift ended!

It is rare for me to be caught off-guard by a tornado, but it sometimes happens. I knew I was close to the rotation, but when I looked in the mirror and saw ground rotation, I was really surprised! The first of many tornadoes yesterday. This one started just northwest of Merino Colorado.

Good to know it wasn’t me having fever dreams from this sinus infection thing that’s now giving me a high fever. Yay for new cameras!
Winter season affords us an opportunity to perform maintenance and upgrades. This year, we upgraded our south/west camera! It should provide sharper images and fix some focus issues that we have had.

Huge thank you to Peter Sharpe at the Institute for Wildlife Studies for lending his expertise!

Hey @calfalcons.bsky.social what’s happening with the webcams right now? Two of them are offline/black screen and say ‘live’ but their dates are 12/16/2024, while the nest cam is fine and the South/West cam is back w/a new stream but half-facing the wall?

We received the final pathology report from UC Davis. Nox died due to a bacterial infection and pneumonia.

We wanted to send our heartfelt thank you to all the veterinarians and wildlife care volunteers that assisted along Nox's journey. We'll miss him.

@calfalcons.bsky.social I’ve been DESPERATE to get my hands on the 2024 and 2023 designs as a hoodie each, but I won’t have money for another 4-5 days. Is the sale ending in three days or just the fundraiser? Can I still purchase my hoodies after that date?

These are a few days old but when it’s November and you’re wondering if that 2005 tornado that destroyed your neighbourhood will happen again in 2024. The weather sure be sketchy lately.

Each time I pack away chase gear for the year, SPC makes me rethink it with a US stork that winds up over here.

I am absolutely gutted. I’ll post later as well as I have been sobbing hysterically for an hour.

Good news and also not. It’s… complicated to explain. Please recover swiftly, my sweet lil Nox 💙🐥🩵

Will link an article below this on emaciation in birds of prey.

Come on, guys, we didn’t remember this from before?
Very quick note: please do not call California Raptor Center or other organizations for updates on Nox.

We will update you on his status when we have more information.

Nox ended up on the ground this afternoon and has been recovered by Bay Raptor Rescue. There do not appear to be any major injuries in an initial examination. We’re not sure what happened, but he will be getting a healthy portion of quail tonight and a thorough examination tomorrow.

Nox has completed his rehabilitation and has been released (with a fancy new backpack!). With his new GPS tag, we'll be able to peak into one of the big mystery of: where juvenile birds go after they leave their parents' territories.
