Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh (RTiE) lead a demonstration in Edinburgh today to support and protect Scotland’s transgender community in the face of rising persecution and discrimination. Today we are standing strong and together and saying no to the idea that segregation can ever be liberation.

A demonstration has been scheduled to coincide with & counteract a protest from Women Won’t Wheesht over the Supreme Court’s ruling for single-sex spaces. They demand that this be implemented across all government departments, a policy that we believe is demeaning & dehumanising for trans people.

TERFs may have been emboldened by the Supreme Court Ruling, but so have we. Just a few days later, we marched through Edinburgh to express our rage, our community's resilience, and our commitment to keep fighting for trans liberation as part of progressive feminism. After the unjust and discriminatory supreme court ruling against trans rights on 16 April 2025, as well as the subsequent EHRC guidance, we are accepting submissions for a zine titled Supreme Injustice!, which will document and archive trans people's voices, art, and resistance against this ruling. The Theme: Art As Resistance: My response to the Supreme Court ruling Submissions close on 25 July 2025 (23:59). Link in Bio! We welcome the news that Pride Edinburgh, following many Pride organisations across the UK, has banned the involvement of political parties.
However, Pride Edinburgh continues to ignore disability access to the event. Now they have listened to trans people, we ask them to hear the voices of others.
Pride Edinburgh press statement Political Parties and Pride Edinburgh 2025 As we make the final preparations for Pride Edinburgh 2025: we are visible, marking our 28th event in our 30th year, we do so with a deep sense of urgency and concern. The organising team is alarmed by the ongoing rollback of protections and support for the transgender community, driven by those in power across both the Scottish and UK Governments and political parties. At its core, pride exists to amplify community voices, empower individuals, and hold institutions accountable. any move to silence or exclude undermines these very principles. We share the community’s anger, grief, and frustration. Following the recent supreme court ruling and the continued lack of meaningful political action. we stand in unwavering solidarity with our trans siblings. They deserve better. It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the uk, by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community, and it would be wrong for pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event. Therefore, the first time in our history, pride Edinburgh is suspending the participation of all political parties from our 2025 event, and this means: - There will be no traditional pre-march speeches by political parties representatives at pride Edinburgh 2025. - Political Parties will not be eligible for stalls at the community fair. - Political Parties will not be permitted to march in the pride march. Instead, in the spirit of reclaiming pride’s purpose, we are proud to support our partners at the equality network, who will host a community-led speeches stage on the morning of the march. This stage, located away from the Scottish parliament, will feature specially invited speakers from within the community and beyond. Full details will be announced by the equality network in due course. We are also honoured to confirm that the sisters of perpetual indulgence will once again lead the community in their traditional minutes noise and minutes silence ahead of the march. Pride remains open to all individuals who support the values of equality, visibility, and justice. Individual MPs, MSPs, and members of Political Parties are welcome to join us in a personal capacity, in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride Edinburgh has never issued a ban and we will not begin now. there will be no bans issued for Pride 2025. Pride Edinburgh 2025: We Are Visible will be a powerful reminder that our fight for equality is far from over. Our community stands united—and we will continue to hold those in power to account until they do better. Pride Edinburgh team.

Be aware there may be a police presence including Police Liaison Officers in blue jackets. You do not have to talk to them. SCALP will be in attendance and able to provide information about your rights. Text: Why? On Wednesday, the UK Supreme Court ruled in favour of For Women Scotland, an anti-trans hate group, in a judgement that strips away the protections that allow trans people to live as the sex and gender they are. The court ruled that, for the purposes of equality legislation, "sex" refers to "biological sex," which the court defined as the "sex of a person at birth." Tellingly, although the Court heard evidence from three different anti-trans hate groups, trans people were specifically blocked from giving evidence. The case is a sham that legitimises the hate movement to force trans people out of public life, and is an attack on everyone's freedom and autonomy. The UK Parliment and Supreme Court have shown that they are actively hostile towards trans existence. We urge the people of Scotland to resist and ignore this Wednesday's verdict. Protesting this unjust, horrific ruling is only the start. Nothing about us without us!

Judge Reyes: EO 14183 adopts the definitions of a separate executive order called Defending Women from Gender Ideology, Extremism and Restoring biological Truth to the federal government. And that EO states, "sex shall refer to an individual's immutable biological classification as either male or female." And it states that, "It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female." Do you see that or do you remember that? Jason C. Lynch:I will take the court's word for it. Judge Reyes: You understand, as a matter of biology, it's just incorrect that there are only two sexes, right? Jason C. Lynch: Do I understand that to be incorrect as a biological matter? Judge Reyes: Yes. It is incorrect as a biological matter. You understand that, right? Jason C. Lynch: I don't understand that to be incorrect. Judge Reyes: You understand that not everyone has an xx or an xy chromosome, right? Jason C. Lynch: Honestly, no, I don't. Judge Reyes: It's actually kind of a really important point because this executive order is premised on an assertion that's not biologically correct. There are anywhere near about 30 different intersex examples. So someone who does not have just xx or xy chromosome is not just male or female. They're intersex. And there are over 30 potential different intersex examples. We've got genetic differences. We have people with xxx chromosomes. We have androgen insensitivity, xy genetically, that may have female external sex characteristics and internally have testes. There's a five alpha reductase deficiency that causes changes in testosterone metabolism, xy that may have female external genitalia or ambiguous genitalia. The point being, and I'm happy to have you guys brief this more if you want, but I'm telling you right now that there are people who are neither male or female. And so the premise of the executive order is just incorrect.
