Ah, Runaway. If you’re a fan of T.J. Hooker and Barry Levinson’s Toys, boy do I have a movie for you!

I did not catch that the old bank man was Dick van Dyke when I was a child, but they did a really good job predicting his future

Iron Lung’s success is sending out an important message: Instead of obsessing over decades-old IPs, studios should listen to their key demographic. They’re telling Hollywood what they want, and it’s not what their parents are obsessing over.

Words cannot express how excited I am to see Kevin, Mike and Bill back at the Satellite of Love. What a wonderful way to celebrate Rifftrax’s 20th anniversary!

Love everything about Joe v Volcano - the cartoonish whimsy, Ryan’s performance(s), the enchanting score…and my god, Stephen Goldblatt‘s cinematography is simply stunning. Damn, I miss the days when even “lighter” fare had artistic flare.

After listening to #ScreenDrafts’ recent Brad Anderson episode, I had to fill some gaps in his filmography. Glad I did; so much fun!

Just a handful of reasons why Volcano is Trash-tastic…
Lava bombs - and lots of them
Pot-bellied pig cameo
Volcanic ash solves the racial divide
The Zodiac pulls a T-800 in the subway
Randy Newman plays over the end credits

The Butcher Boy is unjustly under-seen, but it’s also unrelentingly aggressive with its gonzo energy. So much so, it probably annoys a large chunk of filmgoers. But for those with off-kilter tastes, like myself, it’s cinematic catnip.

Labeling The Plague as a horror/psychological thriller is a promotional tactic that, I feel, does a disservice to the film. What it is, is an extraordinary drama with a star-making turn from Everett Blunck. A brutal, chilling, masterpiece.

God bless Tubi, for recommending the insanity that is The Hoboken Chicken Emergency. Undistilled nightmare fuel, to be sure. Is it odd that I’m #NowWatching a Thanksgiving special on NYE? Hell yes, but that’s how I roll!

Scrooged is a loud & obnoxious movie, for most of its runtime. But then a funny thing happens: the camera locks down on Murray and he gives one of my favorite performances of his career in the last 15 min. He shows a vulnerability here that’s so unique to his filmography.

The criminally under seen Blue Ruin is an extraordinary thriller. The way Jeremy Saulnier relays character and exposition - visually - should be taught in film school.

Seeing Jesse James at the Aero was a long time coming! It’ll be tough to return to it at home; TAOJJBTCRF is just one of those movies that needs to be seen in a theater.

I was blown away by To Sleep with Anger, an extraordinary tale of superstitions, community, and trumpet lessons. Career-best acting, all across the board, and a deceptively simple premise that has layers of subtext. And that ending? Chef’s kiss.

Sirāt may have flashes of Wages of Fear, but it still grooves to its own beat. There’s a narrative turn here that shook me to my core, and that’s when the film reveals its true agenda. Divisive, to be sure, but it’s also not easy to brush off.

I can’t rewatch Fire Walk With Me, without rewatching The Missing Pieces. They’re inseparable; those extended Bowie and Convenience Store scenes still pack a punch.

Wrapped up Halloween on a high, with one of my favorites of this year. And then topped it off with a tonal whiplash, which included singing bushes and invisible swordsmen. A plethora of fun was had by all!
