Algebraic Effects are a generalizing metaphor for parameterized computation. Its application is under-explored in industry, outside of “purity-aware” functional languages (e.g. Haskell, Scala) where it’s used to manage function side-effects. RStrong expands the applicability of effects in proglangs.

Joe Armstrong was a visionary. His idea for a language with highly granular code units (articulated on an erlang listserv) is one of the motivating inspirations for RStrong. When he says “we need letrec”, he’s speaking of encapsulation in a world where all modules are scalar units of functionality.
