the simp(le) color method i'm using on the DOA gals is because of the volume that project will have, but it can absolutely be used for more detailed stuff like my recent Parasite Eve piece. I'm a very big "few layers as possible" guy so the tighter the workflow, the better

here's the 3 core colors i start with, flat, shade and line art tones. I use white for highlights but minimal

5. I'll add more line work to compliment the shading, but minding that the inks are *in service* of the colors now, not the other way around
6. add smaller color parts (eyes, lips, etc) to the details layer, and add ink above as needed.
7. this one needed a bit of extra shade.

3. Once I've got the form and shades down, i add a containing line ink layer around the character. I cut out any thing beyond it's borders.
4. i'll do things like hair and clothing on a layer under the inks, and start erasing the top pencil layer (i like to keep some as texture when possible)
