I’ll be more boring and predict Magnus for both blitz and rapid.

I don’t know if there are Ding haters. Ding is a wonderfully nice person. The only issue everyone had was with his general inactivity and 2600 level play over the last two years.

The World Champion and the highest rated player can be two different people and that’s OK. Chess isn’t somehow magical to be the only game where only rank 1 and rank 2 can be champs. Magnus rejected his crown and ever since then Kasparov should have swallowed his ego and accepted Ding as the King.

Kasparov and his ego will only ever be happy if FIDE begs the top rated player on their knees to play the WCC. Something about his past…
It also seems to be a unique chess issue. No one complains when the FIFA champion isn’t the highest rated team. Or when the finals isn’t played by top two teams.
