This was Harrison’s first serious attempt at working in ceramic, overcoming a fear of failure she began exploring the fallibility of the body.

The piece is titled Jasperware vase and cover with Pegasus finial and with reliefs of Apollo and the Muses, made at the factory of Josiah Wedgwood, Etruria, Staffordshire, ca. 1790. It's part of a larger body of work collectively titled ‘Untitled (things)’.

Once listed as being by an artist unknown, this painting’s true creator was uncovered in 2018 by our Documentation Officer. Research revealed it entered the collection around 1910 and matched a work recorded in our Council Minutes, a donation by J. Collins Francis of a painting by Joseph Ebsworth.

This oil on board painting is a copy after Albert Moore's Dreamers, and is dated between 1876 and 1901!
