A Good Cry is a solid poetry and prose collection. It's the third Nikki Giovanni collection I've read over the past four years (and I'm working on reading a 4th). I definitely recommend her work!

Finished reading this tonight - stayed up way later than I should've to do so. Suzanne Collins is a master. Crafts a brilliant story while equally horrifying & traumatizing me as a reader. Love that for me. 😂

Highly recommend for fans of The Hunger Games series.

Today I read Dear Ijeawele by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It makes a lot of valid & interesting points. Black feminism/black feminists have been a reading theme for me w/this challenge; I've loved each book! Definitely recommend this one. Short, but informative, especially about Igbo culture! #💙📚

Last night I finished Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.

It's a very interesting discussion about perceptions and limitations of Black women in the early 1900s. It's a really good examination of race, social status, marriage, and aging. Couldn't believe that last twist!

There's something insanely satisfying about checking out a stack of brand new manga from your local library 💖📚 #Booksky

Eloquent Rage is the first audiobook I've listened to by a black author this year. I love that Cooper reads it herself, since that's how it's most impactful. I loved hearing about her personal experiences & her family's interactions. Def recommend for anyone diving into feminism & race discussions

Think Zootopia, but shorter and focused on a cat/dog detective duo 😊 #BookSky 📚💙

Recitatif by Toni Morrison is the only short story written by the author. Brilliant in subversion of racial dichotomy in terms of narration. Thought-provoking & all-around brilliant in its presentation. Cannot recommend enough, especially for fans of classic literature & short story composition

James Finds the Beat by Ty Chapman and Anastasia Magloire Williams is a great book with vibrant illustrations that addresses overstimulation and social anxiety/shyness in a fun and relatable way.

Today I read Bella Ballerina by Sharon M. Draper, illustrated by Ebony Glenn.

It's such a cute, lovely book. I highly recommend it for all the little dancers and dance fans out there 💖 💙📚

Benjamin Banneker: Scientist by Garnet Jackson, Illustrated by Rodney Pate

This was a very informative easy reader picture book introducing Benjamin Banneker, with easy to read rhymes. This book was published in the 1990s and is one I never came across at my local libraries.

Honey, I Love and Other Poems by Eloise Greenfield

This is a #ReadingRainbow Selections book. I'd never heard of Eloise Greenfield before, but I really liked this collection and want to look for more of her work! 💙📚

I need more Indigenous graphic novels in my life. I enjoyed both Visions of the Crow and A Girl Called Echo & would love to find more. I love seeing more & more writers get into graphic novel storytelling
