But plenty of American tourists are happy to use your term!

Oh, I'm Canadian, not an (ugly) American.

A little white lie...

No Supremes, Commodores, nor did I notice any rap groups (although that's not a genre I know well). Heck, rock isn't a genre I know *well*...

Seems insulting Usha so much that she leaves could backfire: they'd still divorce, and it would undermine seeing Vance as a patriarch who commands his wife.

But also it would let him wallow as a victim of an uppity woman who asserts her independence, so maybe his target audience would empathize...

In the room the women come and go talking of Michelangelo.

Thanksgiving for practical cats.

That definite article is doing important work!

s/too much/more/

His incompetence and narcissism have prevented him from being worse, but the murders he's ordering the military to commit can't be undone, and also are damaging the institution. USAID cuts may be legal, but have been even more lethal. Rebuilding our soft power won't be easy.

Is Burns too much of a fan of Shelby¹ to do this justice?

I'm in on Felix. Pettitte strikes me as more Hall of Very Good. And that's before we get into him adopting Roger Clemens's training methods.

Thanks for the link - the piece is good, albeit I think overly optimisic: while I don't doubt individual officers have refused to carry out illegal orders, that we've now seen about 20 lethal strikes against alleged smugglers shows other officers are willing to do so. Which was I suppose inevitable.

The Blue Note is a jazz club in New York.

So you can stand on the shoulders of giants.

What can you see?

I recall reading that the record Ruth was supposedly proudest of was his World Series scoreless inning streak, later broken by Whitey Ford.

Fair. Scoundrel in the sense of womanizer is likely accurate, though.

I find what you didn't comment on speaking louder than what you did. ;-)

Doesn't apply to NYC '25, but sometimes the choice may be between a crook and a scoundrel, and you pick the less bad. '92 POTUS perhaps?
H.W. Bush the crook (Iran/Contra)
Clinton the scoundrel (bimbo eruptions).
That may explain a 3rd party run getting almost 19% of the popular vote!

@radiofreetom.bsky.social is failing at math here. Serving less than 3 months of the fourth four year term is not "nearly" four terms, it's barely over 3. When you factor in moving inauguration from March to January, FDR was president for less than 38 months.

Not a complete escape from modern aristocrats - I caught the contrast of Rufus's funeral to Trump and Charlie Kirk's spouse entering to fireworks at his memorial.

I'm unsure if the comparison is harshing more on Rufus or Charlie Kirk, but I'm here for it!

I'm dIsappointed he didn't do The Empire Strikes Back thing and call it episode 5!

There's surely material for 3 prequels.

I found this, that amends the state constitution "... in response to ... redistricting in Texas ...". The resolution text also lists other states Trump asked to redistrict. vig.cdn.sos.ca.gov/2025/special...
I don't know whether that language makes the change conditional on Texas or not.

I vaguely recall when Prop 50 was first proposed there was language about it taking effect if (only if?) Texas redrew its districts. Did that get pulled from the final version, or is my memory off here? If not, California might not redistrict unless Texas does also, reducing this effect.

Agree, but sad (for the country!) that Alex Jones is higher.
November 18, 2025 at 7:42 PM
Agree, although I'd add competence isn't binary. Trump is incompetent at much we'd expect from a POTUS, but he is (or at least was) quite competent in certain areas that helped him gain power.

Is this about the Nuzzi stuff or Trump calling a female reporter piggy? I suppose it works for both!
