Argh, went the other way - 2 ringed plover and 9 great egrets from Mander and a greenshank from Dudney. Quite a few wigeon and pintail around

We had a cracking weekend for the first @rothamsted.bsky.social #data hack. Great entries from the teams and somethings for us to think about on how we present our data! The winning team developed a data explorer for the long-term experiments, with potential to customise for different stakeholders.

The teams are knuckling down for the final 5 hours of the @rothamsted.bsky.social #data hack. Emerging themes around data visualisations to illustrate complex long-term data combing yields, weather and insect data.

In all the excitement I neglected to post anything yesterday about the @rothamsted.bsky.social #data #hackathon at the Royal Agricultural University! I ledt one team working past midnight, and now they're all tucking into breakfast ready for a few more hours coding. Lokking forward to the results!

Cracking wader morning at #Grafham, 2 curlew sandpiper, 2 little ringed plover, common sandpiper, ruff and dunlin from Mander/valley creek. 2 spotted sandpiper, 4 greenshank, 1 common sandpiper plus a couple of pintail from Littleless Creek. But Dudney was empty! Scope video of the Green and Spotted

Any ideas what this is. I'm guessing sone sort of sensor? Screwed in to an oak, the top has a metal pin enclosed by a spring. @richardkbroughton.bsky.social

Here are a couple more pics of the same bird, all taken on my phone through my scope. If I remember right it didn't have tuft like the one in pic. I think the pics bear that out but the quality isn't great

Walk around Grafham marred this morning by 6 "wild campers" or ignorant twats who decided to chuck two bin bags of rubbish into the reservoir. On the plus side, great views of a common sandpiper and Reed warbler by the fishing lodge harbour

Terrible photo, but is this some sort of greylag/canada goose hybrid? #ukbirding. It was with a few Canada geese.

Surely it's not April 1st already?

After a day delivering research #data training with North Wyke colleagues, is there a better way to recharge than a short hike on the moors and pint of Jail Ale

Wow! That's a first. Opened the hide flaps at #Grafhamwater and saw this chap sat in the reeds. Managed to snap a terrible pic before they disappeared

Deep blue sky over Whittlesey Washes looking across to the Do in Doublet sluice gates where the Nene (rhymes with seen) becomes a tidal river to Wisbech then the wash. Still some flood water on the fields...and the new estates push right to the edge of the high ground #Fens

Murky morning. A heron and some teal piping round the edges, a handful of goldeneye, tufties, coots, mallards and GC grebes before blending into obscurity. All very peaceful #grafhamwater pre-work #birding

Suburban #birding?

A sharp hoar frost has brought an ethereal atmosphere to the Nene Washes. Frozen flood looking out from Morton's Leam. #fens #fenland

Glorious frosty walk in the #Fens. Crease Bank looking north to King's Dyke brick yard chimneys and McCains, South intensive agriculture, but this is an industrial landscape transitioning back to nature. Closed brick pits can give way to rich habitat, and south is the #GreatFen project

The high point of a #fenland walk. Slope on the other side was quite dicey!
