What was the last update of a classic property that truly nailed the casting of iconic characters? 2009's Star Trek is pretty remarkable in that regard. You don't feel like it's new people taking on the roles. You just feel like they *are* those characters.

I rewatched Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins after many years. Forgot just how visceral & thrilling it is. Love the way Miike takes his time setting up the carnage, introducing each assassin and slicing out just how evil the main villain is. Then explodes it into a basically hour long bloodbath. Superb.
