...know that history doesn't, indeed *can't,* repeat and to be able to recognize *patterns* and know that once these patterns set themselves up, there are a limited number of possibilities that can follow. Another example is communism, which is remarkably varied not just from leader to leader ...

...Weimar Constitution and how often it had been used before Hitler; Hindenburg's far right cabinet, which pushed him to appoint Hitler even though he didn't trust Hitler—all out of a fear of a resurgence of the SPD, which meant they would suddenly be out of power. To think historically is to ...

Just when I think he can't possibly get any worse, he posts this. What he fails to grasp is that all fascisms are different. He gives the example of the Weimar Republic, but doesn't place it into its unique historical context: the chaos of the Great Depression; the infamous Article 48 of the ...

All I did was to tell you how publishing works. There is a complex legal framework around publishing that has been with us, in some countries, for centuries.
And good luck to you, too. And please, don't stay mad. ❤️

Now you want to change the subject after you erroneously blamed the author for book prices? No they cdn't just get together.Do you think authors are happy abt this?Do you think you're the 1st person to question this? This has been raging in academia for decades. Authors sign a contract w/the publisher

Textbook publishers know that students have no choice but to rent/buy assigned books, so why not jack up the price? I've seen some rental prices that aren't much lower than the buy prices. Even though that's the way it's been for years, I still often find textbook prices shocking.

No it is not possible. After an author writes a book that's accepted for publication, or a paper for a peer-reviewed journal, it no longer belongs to him/her. And authors are typically on the receiving end of harsh criticism from buyers who don't understand how publishing works.

Authors don't set the price for their books, publishers do. And some publishers are worse than others, for example Oxford University Press, but textbook publishers are the worst, and have been for years.

Authors have nothing to do with the price.

Now I have a 2nd Q. How would "expanding the ability of people to seek exemptions from laws they object to because of their faith" affect Employment Division v. Smith? I wonder if Mat Staver has thought through the consequences of that idea? You don't have to answer that Q.

Occasionally I've had Qs about cases that I've wanted to ask you about, and have finally plucked up my courage to do so. Isn't marriage a legal contract?

I'd like to issue my report: I called all of them and left messages, including for Schumer, with the exceptions of Hassan and Durbin. Hassan's box is full, and Durbin simply isn't taking any messages.

Truman created the CIA in 1947 but they were all involved in questionable stuff, esp. after Mao won the Chinese Civil War in 1949 & afterwards they started seeing communists under every rock & believed that China & the Soviet Union were close when they weren't, which led to the McCarthy Hearings.

There was a lot of stuff on TV during the '60s, like Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, which by today's standards, were racy. And even in the school in my small conservative town, no one tried to censor books. They were all required reading. Things started to change in the mid-'70s, after Vietnam.
