Coming from you Phillips...?

Wow....!

First vaguely optimistic tweet of your's I have read in the last 3 years or so...

Why not the EU as one entity
November 21, 2025 at 6:47 PM
Yes....

But we don't have the time to wait for a European super state to emerge...

The climate crisis is now....

We need to act now....

The USA has an abundance of space, sunlight and wind which could easily ensure trivially cheap energy for millennia to come....

Electrification is the simplest way to decarbonize: a heat pump even on a dirty grid uses less carbon than burning gas.

So, why does the UK government levy net zero electrotech like heat pumps more than hydrocarbon gas?

Taxing the clean option harder than the dirty one is a policy fail.

Perhaps....

But the turnout in New York was roughly twice what it has been in the last number of NY mayoral elections....

And Mamdani got roughly 300,000 more votes than both de Blasio and Adams...

So maybe not that much of an underperformance...?

Wow...!

Thanks....

The vast majority of the site surveyed, approximately 82% of the Principal Site, is classified as Grade 3b agricultural land.
October 20, 2025 at 10:05 PM
A well-designed solar farm replaces that with a stable, permanent habitat. It restores un-tilled grass meadows, eliminates chemical pressure, and provides safe perching/nesting structure. This provides raptors with a more reliable, prey source than the ecologically impoverished modern fields
October 20, 2025 at 9:15 PM
The idea of open, raptor-friendly farmland is an ideal, but the reality is often intensive arable monoculture. These fields are stripped of hedgerows, sprayed with pesticides/rodenticides, and constantly tilled. This destroys the stable prey base and leads to secondary poisoning for raptors.
October 20, 2025 at 9:13 PM
Unlike bare, arable fields, a smart solar design provides structural diversity: elevated panels for safe perching/nesting and wide, permanent grass corridors for low-level hunting. This stable, prey-rich environment is a lifeline for raptors offering consistent hunting grounds...
October 20, 2025 at 9:07 PM
Intensively farmed fields are ecological deserts due to pesticides & constant tilling, offering raptors little stable prey. A solar farm swaps this for permanent, diverse grassland. This undisturbed habitat creates a reliable, year-round abundance of voles & insects, a far better food base.
October 20, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Ensure the entire area is permeable. Use wildlife-friendly fencing with gaps or passages along the perimeter to allow small prey animals (voles, rabbits) to enter and exit. This maintains a consistent and accessible food supply for hunting raptors. #Connectivity #SustainableSolar
October 20, 2025 at 8:52 PM
Elevate the panels higher off the ground (up to 42 inches or more). This creates a sheltered space for small mammal prey to forage and move. Raptorial birds thrive when their food source has a healthy, safe habitat underneath the array. #EcoDesign #RaptorPrey
October 20, 2025 at 8:51 PM
Increase the spacing between panel rows far beyond minimums (think 3-4+ meters wide!). This ensures enough light hits the ground for dense, prey-rich vegetation to grow and provides clear hunting lanes for raptors like Kestrels and Harriers. #Agrivoltaics #OpenHabitat
October 20, 2025 at 8:51 PM
Avoid unbroken lines of panels! Design a "cluster" layout by grouping panels and leaving wide, undeveloped habitat corridors between these arrays. This prevents habitat fragmentation & allows wildlife to move freely across the site. #WildlifeCorridors #SolarDesign
October 20, 2025 at 8:50 PM
Well-designed agrovoltaic system managed as a complex habitat mosaic, is usually better for a variety of wildlife, including birds of prey, than a traditional, simplified agricultural landscape.
October 20, 2025 at 8:20 PM
Unmanaged solar conversion can certainly lead to negative ecological outcomes, agrovoltaics is the mitigation strategy against this very problem, directly linking the production of renewable energy to the goals of enhanced food security, biodiversity, and farm resilience...
October 20, 2025 at 8:06 PM
Agrovoltaics (a.k.a. #Agrivoltaics) is the genius dual use of land for both solar energy generation & farming ☀️🌾. Solar panels installed above crops/livestock provide shade, conserve water, and boost land efficiency, giving farmers dual income streams.

True...

But on a more positive note:

Billions are now secured in the Future Ireland Funds.

New planning rules and state bodies have been introduced to force through delivery of long-term infrastructure.

3GW of wind power projects are already auctioned.

Funds are secure, now we build.

The oil industry provided the foundation of skills and existing sites that Scotland capitalized on quickly, while Ireland had to build almost everything from scratch, both legally and physically.
