The brannerite (uranium titanium oxide) sample was pretty metamict at 390 Ma. Only real crystalline material on the XRD pattern was some weakly crystalline anatase (titanium dioxide).

Radiation can also turn minerals amorphous (metamict). Alpha particles knocking atoms out of place in the crystal lattice. There's also a recoil effect when an atom emits an alpha particle. I'm not sure if you'd see this effect from a beta emitter like ⁴⁰K though.
