Hiking to caves with bat research equipment in Jamaica can be tricky, but it’s always worth it.
The work we do in these caves helps us better understand and protect our bat friends and the ecosystems they support. 🦇🌿

Bat Assessment – Day 10 🦇
The team was busy surveying St. Clair Cave, St. Catherine, while I was goofing around and having a little fun observing the bats. Fieldwork isn’t always serious. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment too.

Quick reminder: please don’t release unwanted pets

Day 9 Bat Assessment:
The team was at Hope Gardens, where we set up equipment and hosted people.
Check out the equipment used in bat assessments: mist nets, harp traps, and acoustic devices. It was also a great chance to meet the experts and ask questions about bats and cave research.

Day 7 Bat Assessment:
We were just chilling and testing some gear on the UWI campus. We checked on the bats (Eumops sp.) that roost in a coconut tree. We didn’t catch any bats from the tree, but we still had a great time and got some useful testing done.

Animal rescues don’t always go as planned.
I got a call about an injured John crow that was supposedly attacking a pet cat… or was it the cat attacking the John crow? 🤔
I went to help the injured bird, but from the video, he clearly had other plans.
I hope the little guy is okay.
