Realizing this was a possibility and I didn't have to continue to be unhappy for the benefit/comfort of others was a life changing moment for me. Hard agree.
The flip side of this is that there are people I have cut contact with, here and in real life, for reasons that are my own and not up for debate (or, more accurately, people may debate them but I am not obliged to care or change my mind). If I allow myself this prerogative, others have it too.
