A proud Canadian who is sorry for the 1/3 of US voters who were against Trump, and regrets the suffering that the other 2/3rds are experiencing. He/him
Putin pushed for Keith Kellogg to be banned from discussions with Ukraine because Kellogg actually knows about the history of the conflict. Trump, being weak and ignorant, complied as one of the first things he did in office.

100%. As Avi said, “If we want to come back in Quebec, we need to speak to Quebecers in their language. Right now, we’re not up to the job to come back in strength. We need to come back with a clear offer in French.” He seems to have the right mindset.

The debate wasn't great for a "Francophone" or even bilingual one, but as someone who can understand French, I see why it happened given some of the other candidates. I wish Avi had tried a little bit more to speak in French for improvised answers (even haltingly), but overall, he did well.

I voted Liberal because I thought he was the best alternative to PP and (silly me) I thought he would deliver mass home building and some green ⚡ projects. Despite me having some centrist views, trust me that I won't be glazing him in the future. I'm much more aligned ideologically with Avi Lewis.

Fully agreed. As you pointed out, Mamdani won on bold socialist ideas to improve people's lives, not by incrementalism. I don't recall him saying something similar to "billionaires are rabid dogs", so either his messaging was much more on the positive side, or I'm OOTL and voters didn't care.

Thursday's debate certainly made that clear.

I would love to be wrong, since it would make electing an NDP government much easier. However, I am assuming I am correct and doing my part to shift public opinion in the right (left) direction.
November 30, 2025 at 2:46 AM
Young people online are ready for that (from left to centre), but the broader Canadian public absolutely isn't. There are so many people that don't see the structural problem with wealth inequality.
November 28, 2025 at 4:23 AM
That's a fair take. It probably comes down to better political/civics education and having a compelling alternative on the left, but we don't have either at this moment.
November 28, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Thank you for this courageous and principled move. I hope you can reach out to Liberal constituents in your riding and other pro-climate Liberal MPs to see if you can have a stronger voice on climate together. Perhaps your constituents would even prefer if you crossed the floor to the NDP.

There's a lot to dislike about the Carney budget, but the question to answer is: do you think that voting down the budget would have led to a better outcome? The most likely scenario is an election that delivers Carney a majority, which you wouldn't support.

Does this target efficiency have the same level of credibility as the "sub $40k" Cybertruck target price?

Regular people investing in stocks for their retirement are being out-competed by people who have so much wealth they are incapable of using it other than to accumulate more wealth.

Since 1950, the number of US billionaires has increased by 18000% (from ~5 to ~900), while there hasn't been an 18000% increase in income for the working and middle classes. Tax changes would avoid the ultra rich outcompeting everyone else for asset ownership (ex. homes) and destroying society.

Trump has no credibility or influence in the conflict, and it shows with his repeated failures to get even a ceasefire implemented. The sooner Europe realizes that they need to develop an independent foreign policy around Ukraine, the sooner Russia will invite them to the negotiating table.

Haven't seen official confirmation yet, but this is great news if so. The campaign still needs to keep pushing for a safety margin, so it's pedal to the metal until they get to 330k.

The only reason that JD Vance would boost you to millions of people is because he and Hegseth thought it would be funny to show off the RU tricolour. Since he did, great choice of response!

With First Past The Post a Farage PM would actually be more likely, since Reform just has to get the most votes in a majority of seats, rather than a majority of total votes under a proportional representation system. Reform could poll at 30%, but if the other 70% is split among 4 parties...

The trouble is when the facts line up with people's feelings, but mainstream politicians dismiss them. Farage offers a convenient, wrong explanation for the fall in living standards (immigrants), but it's better than Labour ignoring it. This result was predicted www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCnI...

Labour presiding over a continued fall in living standards and failing to implement the only thing that can reverse it is punishing them. @garyseconomics.bsky.social predicted their current malaise when they entered government www.youtube.com/watch?v=yROI...

"Sumar, the far-left [party in Spain] are opposed to any moves that could undermine funding for social programs."

The solution is to increase the effectiveness of Spain's wealth tax: Estimates by Julio López Laborda suggest that 80% of the assets of the richest 1% are not subject to the wealth tax.
October 16, 2025 at 8:40 AM
Exactly right. The middle class and governments have been squeezed by the ultra wealthy accumulating assets, so without addressing that core issue, even banning all immigration won't stop the slide in living standards. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhJo...
