Stitch: This one was less intentional, but Caedes's lack of belief in his own capability to be useful for anything but destruction early on came from Stitch. His fear of his "nature" giving way to the nurturing of a found family has a lot in common with his arc.

Harley Quinn: A lot of Caedes's design elements were based around Harley Quinn (his earliest concept was a "Barbiebarian" and he's still intended to look a bit like Margot Robbie). His dark humor, brattiness, and sadism balanced with empathy and loyalty towards his allies all come from her.

I'm not good at picking one. One of these four.

Finally got around to taking some new screenshots of this demented little freak. Caedes, the Dark Urge. #baldursgate3 #bg3 #durge

At the same time, he grappled with the Urge, feeling condemned to suffer it in isolation. Defying it by sparing Isobel but nearly killing Astarion instead, Caedes became determined to vanquish it and ensure his friends' survival. As he grew to care for others, they grew to care for him in kind. 6/?

His unwilling murder of Alfira, who helped him rediscover his love of music, and the reality of several companions' possible deaths began to make him fear for them beyond simply losing a body to throw in front of himself. He began seeing them as people with value beyond his own goals. 5/?

Starting with his decision to help the Grove, Caedes began forming small bonds with other people. Helping with Astarion's scars set him on a path to genuinely caring for others. At first, he did so selfishly, only helping others for a reward or if he felt a personal connection to them. 4/?

Caedes justified it to himself by considering his own, physical weakness. He intended to use Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Astarion, Gale, and eventually Wyll and Karlach as protection while he regained the strength needed to claim vengeance. He also decided to use the tadpoles early on to gain power. 2/?

When Caedes awoke bereft of memory, his first instincts were to violently murder whoever put him there and to survive at all costs. However, seeing Shadowheart trapped in the pod unearthed a feeling of pity in him, and he chose to save her despite it not being necessary or advantageous. 1/?

Several times. As Chosen of Bhaal, Caedes shaved his head and wore a hood. It grew out while he was with Kressa, but she only cut it enough to keep it out of her way.

Astarion was responsible for his final haircut the night Caedes resisted the Urge to kill him, and he'd kept that look since.

In lieu of aetherial inks, the minute geometries built into the multifold electrope circuits in Iris's tablet terminal allow for spontaneous elemental transformation. On close inspection the circuitry resembles geometries found Hannish and south sea isle involute grimoires made for arcanima.

You can't usually see it because of their hair, but Iris has a scar on their left brow from the day of Code Blood. It's unusual, most Everkeep denizens lack permanent scars.

Though cured of the Urge's compulsions, Caedes still has a pronounced bloodlust, a sadistic streak, and a taste for humanoid flesh. His travels are often waylaid by Dead Three cultists. Though he looks for a way for Astarion to walk in the sun, he's also looking for a place where there is no sun.

Caedes at the end of Act 2 after saving the forest and all his friends.

This is hard because Caedes really just be saying shit.

Any form of mockery that targets his friends' struggles or past trauma would be off-limits, obviously. He wouldn't mock Astarion's enslavement, that is definitely off limits even if intended as a joke. Kind of thing he'd take a tongue over.

Betrayal, manipulation, slavery, and the tiefling kids are usually the ones he gets murderously upset about, which is why he ate the githzerai's mind.
September 15, 2025 at 12:11 PM
People who betray their allies, being manipulated, slavers, sloppy serial killers, the Flaming Fist, Banites (except Gortash, and that's mostly lingering sentiment), putting the tiefling kids in harm's way, bigotry, Ketheric, the Warden, not laughing at his comedy routine, improper use of knives.
