why are Samus' shoes like this. what does this do at all.
Samus' from Metroid's shoes, which are a very spacey bronzey color. The shoes are flat and armored, but there's a large spiked part where a regular shoe's tongue might be, sticking up like 4 inches.

The Hunger: while it's pretty easy to focus on the very on-the-nose heroin addiction stuff, this is a movie that also feels like it's taking America as a whole to task, a country addicted to military violence and destruction, to perpetuating the colonial powers that it once declared independence against, to seeing its own citizens die in the street. The imagery of the dead bodies from Vietnam and the Holocaust are so shocking in this and the camera lingers over them for such a long time and it's such a stark difference in how I feel about the filmed violence in the movie and the real violence that this country has actually perpetuated or inspired. As Ganja & Hess noted: there existed an addiction to blood. Frankenstein: Perhaps a director getting to do one of his dream projects is NOT always a win. Perhaps he turns a story he loves into a story that's so full of winks and nods to the real world around it that it starts to become corny, having someone directly call the main character Prometheus, having the Creature read "Ozymandias" because you know, it was written by Mary Shelley's husband, and as I saw pointed out, ending the film on a Byron quote. Perhaps you turn one of the most enduring and influential books ever written into a weirdly pedantic film where someone turns to Frankenstein at some point and says to him "I think.... YOU are the monster..." Thank you, Guillermo. You've really done it. You've blown the whole thing wide open. I Married a Witch: It's a shame, then, that this is cut rather short when she accidentally drinks a love potion meant for him and turns the "I'm going to drive him mad by making him love me and then being unreachable" plot into "I love him and really desperately want him to marry me soooooo bad." As Sally Jane Black's review points out, there's a subversity inherent in the concept that feels like it gets done away with and makes the movie feel a lot more square. I know, I know, those were just the times this movie came out and there was no way we were gonna have a woman who delights in torturing and tormenting men have a happy ending like that, but I wish there was more of a middle ground - y'know, she can still make his car fly and control the minds of people but in a good, God-fearing, puritanical-type of way. Heretic: They also said they were trying to discuss religion in a like, popcorny way, but I don't really think they manage it. Much of it is just Mr. Reed's long, long monologues where he points out "y'know...... there are SIMILAR stories to Jesus' story from other cultures.... makes you think, doesn't it, that maybe all religions are fake...?" but the girls don't really have a strong rebuttal or much to add about like, why they're religious (and specifically Mormon!) and what their religion means to them. The strongest rebuttal we get to what Reed's saying is when Paxton suddenly becomes Sherlock Holmes and starts doing the "your hair was wet.... you did this because we knew we'd react.... the water from the top of the table flows into a previously unseen crevice showing a trap door..." girl what. And that doesn't have anything to do with religion or faith, and it's apparently her rebutting a story that he's making up like, in the moment, on the spot, because something didn't go according to plan and so he has to improvise. But he's just Such a good Master Manipulator that even when things go wrong he can spin them around such that turns it back around and perfectly turns it back to his original plan anyways.

In an early draft the script was written as a semi-musical. The idea was that Ice Cube would rap through the flashback/exposition sequences with the Ghosts of Mars featuring heavily as a dancing troupe. The idea was scrapped when Carpenter discovered Ice was a better actor than rapper.
