Getting back on sketchnoting now that I recovered most of my mental an physical health 😌
This one is about server side rendering (SSR)!
Sketchnote on server side rendering. A client orders a page, the server prepares the page with all the ingredients (API, data…) and serves the initial HTML page as a starter. With it, the page is already viewable, but not yet interactable. On a second iteration, the server sends the JavaScript content, that the client executes to make the page interactive. Server side rendering is in opposition to client side rendering, where the server would serve static files and the client would have to execute all the JS to get the whole page at once, which is more work on the client and, as a consequence, often slower. Pros of SSR are faster initial loading times which lead to better SEO performance. But server get more load which can be more expensive. Also, some 3rd party libraries are not compatible. Because of the inactivity between HTML is rendered and js is executed, the most useful use case are static and social media websites. Lots of frameworks exist to help us implement SSR (next.js… )
