Nostalgia is certainly a part of it, but it's also not as if most people wake up and decide they want new releases to be bad. I think it's a response to how often many IP holder's are making divisive or just awful design choices consistently. Primarily a AAA market pattern if I'm honest.

I like when a mod pack is tagged by the mod creator directly in the title such as X mod by Y creator, it helps a lot with organization
