Did I already mention that in addition to being in a highly collaborative and collegial institution- working at @ucdavisvetmed.bsky.social @ucdavis.bsky.social has perks like: being a 30 min drive to Napa Valley, 15 mins to Sacramento, 45 mins to Berkeley, 1 hour to SF, & 2-2.5 hours to Lake Tahoe?

One of the reasons I love working @ucdavisvetmed.bsky.social @ucdavis.bsky.social? The Howl-o-ween Dogstume Contest! I have been honored to both judge this contest and attend. It’s a social and fundraising event supported by the Dean and run by the Canine Medicine Club every Halloween! So awesome!

Faculty Position in Anatomy, Physiology & Cell Biology We are seeking an outstanding integrative physiologist (broadly defined) for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) to join our faculty in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Cell Biology in the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), UC Davis. Our department is a highly integrated group of faculty studying molecular, cellular, physiological, and pathophysiological mechanisms of health and disease. The candidate should have an active research program that focuses on interdisciplinary physiology research using state-of- the-art approaches. We welcome research which diversifies our expertise, and/or that which complements existing strengths in gastrointestinal, neuroimmune, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory systems as well as developmental biology. Candidates are expected to expand access to education and provide opportunities in research for students, trainees, and the community across various life and professional experiences. • Candidates must possess a PhD and postdoctoral experience in physiology or a related field. • Aptitude/experience in teaching broad-based physiology or functional anatomy to professional or graduate students. • Experience with grant writing. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse community. Update to the Temu dog toy saga… her eye swelling has reduced, but yesterday her eyes were weeping (pic 1) and leaving crusty residue and today her skin is peeling like a chemical burn (pic 2). Poor baby. We are gently washing the skin multiple times a day and hoping she didn’t eat filling. 😢

Do yourself a favor and don’t buy your dogs toys from Temu… 🫠 (my mom bought it). She broke it open within minutes, had the stuffing all over her face, and woke up today with her eyes swollen shut. Vet says Benadryl. Poor baby.

I just rescued the largest dragonfly from the pool that I’ve ever seen. It’s easily 4-5 inches long! He’s 2x-3x the size of our normal dragonflies (see second pic with all rescues). 😃
