From my humble understanding of this, confusion arises from the use of the term 'flat' when applied to the universe. 'Flat' is not used in the sense that the universe is a plane, flat as a pancake. It is used as a descriptor to say that the universe has no curvature and follows Euclidean geometry.

I watched an interview with Glen Cook, author of the Black Company etc. He said with a smile: “I know I will be writing probably on my deathbed because it’s just a compulsion, it’s something I have to do. Even if it’s not going to sell, I’ll do it. Because I have to do it.” #writerlife 🖋️📖💰
