The man did nothing wrong. Much like Geordi, he was promoted and moved to a field that better suited him.

For Angus McGonagle Argyle, is was when it was learned that he gargles Gershwin gorgeously.

It mystifies me when people act like Star Trek is some sort of source of humor rather than the very serious business it is.

Maybe back in TOS with its go-go boots and its flivvers, but when TNG gave us a scene with some serious contemplative beard-stroking... The child has become the man.

And, yes, the "that's user-edited" argument applies to sources on both sides, including Wikipedia, Memory Alpha, and IMDb, but even sources from CBS/Paramount appear to have swapped both the air order and the production numbers of the two over time.

The companion lists "Starship Down" as 479 and LGM as 480, but Memory Alpha lists SSD as 480 and LGM as 479, so it disagrees on both the prod order and the airdate order.

The Encyclopedia (4th ed.) seems to agree with the Companion.

Is there something in the Trek Files that can help sort this out?

@larrynemecek.bsky.social ? @memoryalpha.bsky.social ? Note that the Chronology by @mikeokuda.bsky.social lists LGM as the earlier episode, not "Starship Down" as most modern sources do.

This is further confused in that most sources agree that the two were aired out of prod. order, but...

True afficianados call them off-by-two errors.

The truly hardcore call them off-by-zero errors.

Myself? I'm a fan of all three options above.

Genuinely confused as to what they're "forcing". Another movie with new characters? Is there a specific aspect that concerns you?

And, nothing personal, but I've come to consider "No one asked for this" the lamest complaint that I hear with regularity. No one asked for DS9 or Lower Decks either.

Sorry! Must be a different Jeff Ayers. I tried to confirm if I was tagging the right one, but it was hard to say for sure; my bad.

Fair enough! Thanks for the reply in any case.

Guessing it was just a mistake that got carried over between books since the ep list in the Chronology appendix puts "Second Skin" first and no reason is noted in the book itself, but if anyone remembers some intent behind it I'm curious @mikeokuda.bsky.social @jeffayerswrites.bsky.social
