The ACA benefits were about $125 billion in fiscal year 2024. I have a simple solution, defund ICE, and hey, we found the money, killed 2 birds with one stone.

If enough Republicans join Democrats to reach 218 signatures, the bill could come to the floor despite leadership resistance. << So, will the R's break ranks to override the punk-ass speaker? If they cannot get a veto-proof vote it may be a lost cause.

I don’t think it’s right or morally fair either. But ACA benefits reach voters across the spectrum. Republican reps and senators will face pushback from their own base on extending them. The real question is whether there’s enough support to pass something veto-proof. That, I don’t know.

It’s a stopgap bill funding the government through Jan 31 2026, with a promise to vote on extending ACA benefits. If no deal’s reached by then, they can shut it down again. That’s their logic—flawed, maybe, but it’s the only rationale that fits.
