Thanks! I went straight into a busy work day afterwards, so, uh, not exactly, but I've gradually calmed down, or at least returned to stress about deadlines instead

I reacted in what I think was the right way - not running, yelling, looking bigger. Just as I had got them to stop a short distance away and my thoughts went from "how do I protect myself" to "how do I contact animal control" their owner shouted for them from two blocks away and they ran off.

If they taught everyone that stuff, more people would understand how ridiculously bad this system is and maybe we'd get closer to universal healthcare

Yeah lol - as with so many things, context matters. When I lived in the Capital District, I wouldn't have described it that way to someone in Albany or Schenectady either

Another layer of annoying: Some people conflate relative position with absolute. I have a friend who lives in Central NY and insists that the only place that qualifies as upstate is, essentially, the North Country.
