Oh Bluesky HATES hates its users, especially its trans ones, huh? The CEO is acting like an edgy 13 year old.

This is my breaking point. I’m not gonna sit and wait until this gets worse. I bailed on Tumblr when their CEO started acting like a transphobic baby in public, & this is big baby behavior.

This kind of attitude combined with denying that policies or moderation practices are changing is concerning. This pfp blurring seems to be a new occurrence which directly contradicts what Why and other Bsky team members have been saying about their policies.
Josh quoting a post. He says “the replies to Why's post are ridiculous, true stupidity like you would not believe. All of these people haven't even read the policy.” The post he’s quoting from Why says “No, like depictions of non-consensual sex acts, even if fictional. The thing most people appear to be getting extra mad over is that we don't allow depictions of rape now” Why responds to Josh’s quote saying “Yeah, It's really fascinating how people choose to engage on the internet” Post from why.bsky.team that reads “People are mad that the wording is changing to now clearly say that non consensual kink porn is not allowed, despite us already actioning that content previously when it came up.”

Using the “just go make your own” excuse to justify worsening moderation decisions.

Bsky always wanted to put the responsibility of moderation onto its users. Not to give them freedom, but so that Bsky didn’t have to do the hard work of appropriately moderating. They still don’t wanna do that work.

I wrote & sent letters to my senators today & I encourage people to do the same.

After talking to others I realized some ppl would really like a comprehensive guide for this.

So I sat down & wrote a step by step guide to calling & sending letters to your senators that I’ll post in the AM.

Often ppl don’t “get” modern or conceptual art, but it’s bc they don’t take the time to look into it any deeper than the surface.

Take Felix Gonzalez-Torres. On the surface it’s just two clocks. Read deeper & it’s a portrait of lovers & commentary on loss & the AIDS crisis. More info in alt text.

As a kid I had family, a teacher, & classmates who all complimented my work & encouraged me to keep creating.

Idk if I’d still be drawing today if instead I’d faced the kind of bullying I’ve seen beginner artists get online.

Everyone starts somewhere, & the act of creation alone is worth praise.
This was a drawing from my first “real” sketchbook that I remember being really proud of in 4th grade. It’s a drawing of a girl with pigtails wearing a layered skirt and suspenders. She’s smiling and there’s stars, rainbows, and smiling faces around her. It was very obviously drawn by a 4th grader who was just learning that shading was a thing. A drawing I did in October of 2024 for an art exchange. It’s a digital portrait of a witch smoking a cigarette. She has bright purple hair and gothic makeup with a scar across her eye. She’s wearing a victorian inspired dress in Halloween colors and a big witch had with a spider web pattern underneath it. She has an oval frame around her with a spider web motif.

I’m sharing in case others need some inspiration on what to say when contacting them. I just request you don’t use this message verbatim.
Shortened due to bsky limit. Recently, Itch.io, a digital storefront that provides a wide range of games and comics, was forced to delist thousands of items due to them containing “adult content”. In order to comply with requirements from their payment processors and allow them to continue taking payments, they put new guidelines in place that target not just sexual content, but nonsexual content with adult themes as well. With fewer companies permitting the sale of legal content online containing adult themes, I am contacting PayPal to express my frustration and disapproval both of PayPal’s blanket ban on digital products containing sexual imagery, and of how these policies result in even nonsexual depictions of adult themes being restricted. These restrictions effectively censor large swaths of creative digital products that are both legal, and are often a vital source of income for the artists that make them. While PayPal’s policies may not state platforms using their services should eliminate ALL mentions of these adult topics or face losing service, the end result is the same as if that had been the case. All of this means I as a consumer am prevented from purchasing legal digital products if they contain even references to sensitive sexual content such as rape. While I personally think adults should not be barred from purchasing fictional depictions of sex, I especially think we should be permitted to purchase these items when those fictional works do not even contain sexual acts in a way intended to arouse. Preventing such transactions is a vast overreach that is effectively killing the livelihoods of many creatives and censoring entire libraries of valuable creative work. If franchises which contain depictions of fictional incest and rape, such as Game of Thrones, are permitted to be bought with PayPal, why are these policies being unfairly implemented when it comes to other creative works on digital storefronts when they contain the same themes?
