There are no place cells in primates and humans (and I believe they really tried) most EC cells recorded are not gridlike (suggesting humans don't [primarily] use these cells). This is an issue if people link such 'beautiful' but rodent specific cells to human cognition; which as you know, many do.

Yes, absolutely amazing progress with these systems in rodents. However, if there is no primate/human equivalent, then it is not a strong starting point for human neuro.

Aside to the issue of how to define "functional cell types" (which is a big point of the paper), do you think this is an issue if we only find this kind of perfect looking cells in rodents? (not to mention ignoring other non "beautiful" cells)
