Saddened by the shooting that critically wounded two National Guard members. Holding them and their families close and grateful for the swift response from law enforcement. Gun violence cannot define who we are as a nation.

I first raised maternal mortality in Congress. Mercedes Wells and her baby are doing well—but what she endured is appalling. I’m introducing the WELLS Act to require Safe Discharge Labor Plans, and I’ll carry this fight for mothers to the U.S. Senate.
