Haven't had chance to watch, but how did our gov fail us on nazis? They had/have the right to exist as per our 1st Amendment, but by the time of our involvement in WWII we did a good job of eradicating them from gov positions (overdid it with many German, Italian and -especially- Japanese citizens).

That is incorrect. Once a president is removed via our 25th Amendment, the vice president is sworn in and serves out the remainder of the term.
