As a Muslim American, I unequivocally condemn the recent killings in Sydney. The cause of this heinous act is hatred - hatred of Jews, in particular - not anyone else’s suffering. Killing innocent people is wrong. Period. Full stop. My heart goes out to Australia’s Jewish community.

Hey! I have this on my shelf!

For too many of us, yes. (Not really by choice, in my case.)

Yes, Americans have been hoodwinked by this horrid thing based on a stolen distortion of educational tool (Landlord’s Game). I feel sorry for those who think of this as what boardgames are.

A good game which scales easily up to a large number of players (like all ‘roll and write’ games). You can play it online at boardgamearena.

Steinbeck’s criticism that it’s hard to rally the workers of America because so many see themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

That last part doesn’t seem exactly right. Parker Brothers paid her peanuts for the rights, but she didn’t care much about that: her key ask was that they print and offer for sale her other game displaying her solution for society. They did. No one bought it and it went out of print.

Last year, we got Daybreak, a board game about working collaboratively to mitigate climate change, lots of different aspects, urban, energy, land use and equality... Quite complex.
All packaged without plastic.
Nice (and experimentally useful) Christmas present.

As a someone into the hobby, I’ll vote against Catan. It was a trendsetter in its time, but it has unfun and mean aspects. You can find games which are much more consistently enjoyable.
But honestly knowing more about this person would enable better recommendations.

True. I recall father, who was often at Congressional hearings, describing watching Senator Moynihan trying to warn other people about this when it began but “it was as if the magnitude of the theft was too tremendous to be grasped”.

I miss your presence here, but please do whatever you need to do. FWIW a host of us near-strangers care about you and wish you well.

A non-social deduction genre playable by any number but requires brainpower is the so-called “roll and write” (which often uses cards, not dice). This might not sound interesting until you see it in action: on boardgamearena you can play 3 good ones free: Cartographers, Welcome To & Railroad Ink.

There’s an interesting point/counterpoint on this thread were the OP pans it but some commenters illustrate its strengths: boardgamegeek.com/thread/21780...
Mystified by the love this game is getting after demoing at PAX East | Blood on the Clocktower
I want to note at the top, my conclusion is that this game is not for me, particularly at the $80 price point. After the demo, I would have guessed that this would have been the common response. But w...
