Biboonagad! Winter has arrived!

2F this morning and gorgeous. Not as much snow as east and south (!) of us, but good enough for touring skis and perfect for reading the overnight news on the pond.

Can you distinguish between coyote and domestic dog?

Can you ID a (Long-Tailed) Weasel?

Pro-tip for foodies: this stuff will change your life. Put it on stir fry, rice dishes, eat it with a spoon or just a funnel.

You will thank me.

As our attention is on the (underage) victims of rape & sex trafficking, my mind is also on the victims and survivors of decades of identical horrors (including murder) in *government and church* run boarding and residential schools.

Never forget them.

Had a great time at Rain Taxi, the great Minnesota Book Fair! What a wonderful collection of creative, thoughtful, and fun people. If you haven't gone to a book fair, I highly recommend it - especially with Christmas around the corner!

The Winnipeg Police Chief shared words of healing at Louis Riel's ceremony. I thanked him afterwards, mentioned I was a 1st-Responder. He gave me a Promise Coin, often given 2 military/service groups as marks of distinction, honor & team spirit.

It will join other objects of importance on my desk.

Took a walk around Lake of the Isles this morning, early, and exchanged a "good morning" with a man pushing a walker (quickly) with two members of his family and a schnauzer, then instantly realized it was one of the greatest Minnesotans, ever: Alan Page.

My heart sang for the rest of my walk.

FWIW, my "bad guy" is a corrupt developer who gets elected to local office, invites a fossil fuel company to the small town & begins to act like a tyrant, directing private security goons against the town's citizens.

This was all laid out around 2010, so yeah.

I'm not saying be race blind. That's dumb. Be race aware. We need to deal with the demons of our shared history. We need truth. We need reconciliation. I think if a lot white Americans began to identify with people who don't look like them, our healing process as a nation can begin.

Lil Indigenous Peoples Day thread...

My dear friend-and 3rd-generation tour guide-gave my wife and me a tour of the Alcazar & Cathedral in Sevilla (where I lived) in April. I found her history of Spain in the Americas a bit...sanitized, & so suggested she look at Indigenous perspectives.

30 chapters down, 14 to go! Sometimes I forget how emotional some of these scenes are and I have to pause to collect myself so that I can record without choking up.

This book lifts up women and people of color.

It is damn good. Please buy a copy for yourself and maybe a few for Christmas!

Seven chapters recorded! I have a window at the start of the day when my voice is low and gravelly which is the best time to record, especially when I do Russ.

Finding some typos and one paragraph screw-up (sorry), but we'll fix that in the next print run.

Hey, look who's #1 in Hot New Releases in YA! I'm tellin ya, you'll love this story. And, once more: this trilogy is very much a tale of resistance.

Working on book 3 of the trilogy and taking a dive into radicalization of young people through gaming and I hate this so much.
